2 And thou shalt remember all the way which YHWH thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that He might afflict thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.
Deuteronomy 8 דברים
27 Howbeit on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; there shall be a holy convocation unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; and ye shall bring an offering made by fire unto YHWH.
29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from his people.
Leviticus 23 ויקרא
33 The fear of YHWH is the instruction of wisdom; and humility is before honour.
לג יִרְאַת יְהוָה, מוּסַר חָכְמָה; וְלִפְנֵי כָבוֹד עֲנָוָה.
Proverbs 15 משלי
Afflict - cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble.
Humble - having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance:
lower (someone) in dignity or importance.
Yom Kippur is the day each person must put aside their titles and egos and ask themselves are they following the instructions of the God of Israel and are they willing to do so under any and all circumstances. It’s not about fasting from food but from the sense of self-importance that inflates the ego and causes a depreciation in our estimation of the worth of one another.
Do you stand for truth when all others are supporting lies?
Do you give as much when you have an abundance as you did when you had little?
Do you extend your hand to help others regardless of the affiliation or lack thereof between you?
Do you forgive others as you would want to be forgiven?
Every Israelite has a personal relationship with the God of Israel, and it is to Him that you are accountable on this day.
28 In those days they shall say no more: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'
29 But everyone shall die for his own iniquity; every man that eateth the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.
30 Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,
33 and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: 'Know YHWH'; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith YHWH; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.
Jeremiah 31
We must all know what truly pleases Yah Yahwah for ourselves and not according to someone else’s perception or knowledge.
5 Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to YHWH?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the fetters of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him, and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Isaiah 58
8 It hath been told thee, O man, what is good, and what YHWH doth require of thee: only to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.
Micah 6
Let us one and all submit to the will and instructions of Yah Yahwah, the God of Israel!
22 Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else.
23 By Myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from My mouth in righteousness, and shall not come back, that unto Me (Truth) every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
25 In YHWH shall all the seed of Israel be justified and shall glory.
Isaiah 45
